Parent Aide Program
The purpose of the Parent Aide program is to reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect by teaching high-risk parents in Dallas County positive parenting skills. Participating families receive support to prevent the cycle of child abuse, free of charge, through this home visitation program that coaches parents in non-violent discipline methods for up to two years. Parent Aide has been a program of Family Compass for 20 years. 2012 Results: 181 parents and children were served, 91% of families did not have a referral to child protective services and 67% of parents reported improved parent to child interactions.
Healthy Families Dallas
The purpose of the Healthy Families program is to prevent child abuse and neglect by teaching at-risk pregnant and parenting teens positive parenting techniques, the importance of maintaining well child visits, completing high school and pursuing higher education to obtain employment. The Healthy Families program is a free home visitation program that serves participating families for up to five years. Family Compass' Healthy Families program invests in child wellbeing among zero to five year olds born to teen parents who live in high-poverty areas of Dallas. Healthy Families has been a program of Family Compass for the last 12 years. 2012 Results: 95% of families did not have a referral to Child Protective Services; 61% of parents reported decreased parental stress; 98% of children were developmentally appropriate; 84% of mothers were in school or working to support their families.
